Hall makes the grade for CoSIDA honor

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College sophomore Ashley Hall has been named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Women's Soccer Second Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Hall, a Hazard, Ky. native, is the second player in program history to receive the honor. She joins Becki Woodworth, who was also a second-team selection in 2005.
CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) annually names Academic All-America teams in all sports. CoSIDA was established in 1957, and the Academic All-America program dates back to 1952.
To qualify for the Academic All-America Team, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.20, be a sophomore, junior or senior and player in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed. Each sport is divided into two divisions, University and College. The University Division includes all NCAA Division I schools, while the College Division encompasses all NCAA II, III and NAIA institutions.
CoSIDA is also separated into eight districts. District IV includes all institutions in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
Hall, a forward for the Lady Bulldogs, led the team with 19 goals in 18 matches this season. She recorded six multi-goal games including a hat trick against Montreat (N.C.) College. Her 42 points also ranked second on the squad.
She was the only NAIA player and the lone selection from the Appalachian Athletic Conference on the District IV team. Also, six of the 45 players on the three District IV teams were sophomores.
Union enters the AAC Tournament next weekend with a 14-4 record. The bracket will be announced Tuesday for the first-round matches to be played next Saturday.

CONGRATS ASHLEY! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!!
